If you are looking for a first piccolo, I would go with a plastic one. The Plastic ones are relatively cheap when compared with Silver and Wood. They are good outdoors as well as indoors. Wood Piccolos would never be played outside because when African Black Wood is exposed to harsh conditions, such as heat, or cold, it will wreck the piccolo.
