In 1931 Wayman Carver recorded "Loveless Love" with Dave Nelson and in 1933 he recorded "How Come You Do Me Like You Do?" Carver recorded the first Jazz Flute solo in 1932 entitled "Sweet Sue" with Coleman Hawkins and Henry "Red" Allen. Before Carver played the flute he played the saxophone. Carver greatly helped influence and promote the jazz flute. Many jazz historians credit Carver as being the first true jazz flutist.
